Last Inning Rally for Spokane
VICTORIA — A four-run Spokane rally climaxed by Bob Morgan's two-run homer gave the Indians a 6-5 win over the Victoria Athletics tonight before 1,200 rooters at Royal Athletic Park. Bill Woop pitched himself in and out of jams all evening, including in the fatal ninth. He grabbed Jim Dow's terrific liner in self defence for the first out but walked Buddy Hicks. Doug Donnan singled and both scored as Herb Gorman lined a screaming double to right centre. Morgan then connected for his home run.
The Athletics made a bid to pull it out in their half. Vic Mastro batted for Woop and tripled to left. One out later, Johnny Hooper walked. Jack Harshman forced him at second to score a run. Bill White singled, then Babe Jensen hit one to Hicks at short, who fumbled the ball, but recovered in time to get Harshman at the plate to end the game.
With Pat Patterson leading the way with a homer and a triple, the A's scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings, then added one in the eighth when Bill Werbowski walked a batter with the bases loaded.
Woop walked five, struck out ten, and allowed 12 hits in squaring his record at 6 and 6.
