12 Runs Good for Wins in Split
VANCOUVER - John Cordell left ten Vancouver runners stranded while his Yakima Stars went on to a 12-5 win over the Vancouver Capilanos in a Saturday afternoon WIL contest.
Carl Gunnarson won his ninth straight as Vancouver won the second game 12-6.
The Caps managed 15 hits in the opener, including four by Frank Mullens, who had two doubles. But the Stars scored five runs in the fourth inning, and added two in the sixth and seventh, and three in the eighth.
Buddy Peterson batted in five and Cordell knocked in three.
In the night game, Mullens crashed a homer over the centre field wall with Buddy Hjelmaa aboard in the first inning.
The Yaks tried the home run trick, but were thwarted by the screen in right field. Harlond Clift hit it twice and what would have been homers earlier this season went for doubles.
Lou Estes, Bob Stumpf and Len Tran all had three hits for the winners, who smacked 15.
Fritz Romple was chased after a third of an inning, giving up all four runs on two hits and three walks.

Salem Takes Extra Inning Game, Splits Two
VICTORIA - A run in the tenth inning gave the Salem Senators a 7-6 win in the second of two games here Saturday after the Victoria Athletics took the opener, 9-5.
Home runs by John Hooper, John Cavalli and Jack Harshman gave the Athletics an early 6-1 lead.
Salem drove Ray Fortier to the showers in the seventh when they scored twice to make it 6-3. They had two runners over in the eighth and runners on second and third when Lou Kubiak bounced to Leo Righetti at second. Vic Mastro took the throw with Peterson ten feet from the plate. To the crowd's amazement, umpire Slavich ruled him safe, saying Mastro dropped the ball.
Manager Ted Norbert was tossed out in the ensuing argument, but the decision stood, leaving the score tied 6-6. Marty Krug's home run in the tenth won the game for the Senators.
Bill White's bases-loaded home run in the second inning was the feature of a six-run second inning. Five of the runs were unearned, thanks to Krug's error after one had scored.
Circuit blasts by Righetti and Harshman, the latter with a man aboard, accounted for the other Victoria runs.
