Rookie Hammered in Double Header Split
WENATCHEE, June 22 – The Wenatchee Chiefs showed little respect for Larry Manier, making his first pro start, as they jumped on him for all their runs in three innings for a 7-5 win in the first of two games against the Vancouver Capilanos.
Starter Lou McCollum helped himself with four runs batted in as he doubled and singled.
Charlie Mead and Jim Estes homered for the losers.
Mead also homered in the nightgame, and hit a double and singled as the Caps pulled off a 13-9 win.
Len Tran doubled and single for Vancouver as they struck for four runs in the first to chase starter Galusha after only a third of an inning.
Steve Andrade had the only extra base hit of 12 knocks by Wenatchee – a double.
