Caps Split Sunday Series
YAKIMA, June 8 - A five-run third inning chased Jim Hedgecock as the Yakina Stars defeated the Vancouver Capilanos, 8-1, in the first game of a double header Sunday. The Capswon the second match 8-3 behind the three-hit pitching of Carl Gunnarson.
Robinson had a double and two singles to bring in three runs for the Stars and Harlond Clift added a pair of runs on a double.
Buddy Hjelmaa's single scored Jim Estrada in the fifth inning for Vancouver.
Fritz Romple allowed only four hits and walked three in notching the win.
In the night game, Bill Wright had a perfect day with four hits while Bob Stumpf added three.
Art Lilly hit a solo homer in the sixth while Buddy Phillips doubled in two runs in the seventh.
After the game, Vancouver General Manager Bob Brown cut his roster to the 18-player limit by returning righthander Jack Meister to the Seattle Rainiers.
