Games of Sat., April 19, 1947

SALEM, April 19 - A late rally by the Vancouver Capilanos fizzled as the Salem Senators hung on for a 5-4 victory in Western International League action here Saturday.
With Frank Mullens at third, reliever Dick O'Boyle got Lou Estes to ground out to end the game.
Charlie Mead singled in a pair of Vancouver runs, while Hank Bartolomei had a pair of run-scoring singles for the winners. Mullens added an RBI double, the only extra-base hit of the game.

WENATCHEE - Babe Jensen made amends for a costly error in the first inning by belting a home run in the second inning, then brought home the winning run in the tenth as Victoria shaded Wenatchee 4-3 in Western International League baseball Saturday.
Victoria semi-pro star Bill Prior made his first start in professional baseball and would have had a no-hitter if he was been accorded the support he deserved. He tossed three-hit ball through eight innings; each hit came after an error.
Prior retired the first two batters he faced, but Jensen dropped Eddie Barr's high foul on the third base line. Given life, Barr clouted a tremendous home run over the left field wall for the first run.
Jensen evened it with a one-out homer in the bottom of the inning and Jack Harshman put the A's ahead with a fourth inning four-bagger.
Prior remained hitless until the seventh when Barr lofted one to centre field, where Pat Patterson dropped the ball then kicked it around as Barr raced to third.
Bob Williams then bounced a grounder through the box, Mike Hafenecker threw to the plate, but the throw was late and the blow was ruled a hit. Williams went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Hal Rhyne lashed a single.
Hafenecker opened the ninth with a walk off Suds Sutherland. Leo Righetti tried to sacrifice but ended up with a walk, then Prior failed in two bunt attempts and was pulled for Frank Milani. He next pitch hit him to load the bases. After a pop out, pinch hitter Bill White came through with a sacrifice fly to centre.
Adam, a young southpaw, came in to hurl for the Chiefs in the tenth, but Vic Mastro doubled over the third base bag, went to second on Ray Harshman's sacrifice and scored when Jensen blooped on behind third.
