Five Homers as Caps Win
VANCOUVER, May 8 — Vancouver Capilanos pushed across two runs in the last half of the ninth to defeat the basement-dwelling Wenatchee Chiefs, 8-7, in a Western International League baseball game tonight that produced five circuit smashes.
Bud Hjelmaa, Capilano shortstop, produced the winning runs with a sharp single in the ninth scoring Frank Mullens and Ron Bryant. The Chiefs led, 7-6, in their half when southpaw Jim Hedgecock, relieving Bob Hall, walked four batters.
Of the five homers, three went to the Chiefs, with catcher Nick Pesut accounting for two. Lee Windsor drove in the other homer. Mullens and Charlie Mead looked after the heavy stickwork for Vancouver.
Hall worked nine innings for the Caps, whiffed 12 Chiefs, while Joe Adam fanned only three and walked nine. Caps, who have been playing errorless ball for three games, spoiled their record with a lone miscue.
