Eight-Run Inning as Caps Drub A's
VICTORIA – An interference call in the fifth inning gave the Vancouver Capilanos new life as they went on to score eight times and defeat the Victoria Athletics 12-4 in the first game of a seven-game Western International League home-and-home series.
After the A's had knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, home runs by Len Tran and Bill Wright, the former with a man aboard, have the visitors a three-run lead.
Lou Estes then singled, but Charlie Mead grounded to Jack Harshman for what would hav ebeen the final out. Umpire Last made the interference call, giving Mead first base. Buddy Hjelmaa singled, and Bob Stumpf, Jim Hedgecock and Lee Mohr doubled to drive five runs across and lead the rest of the game a mere formality.
Max Hittle was finally pulled after 4 2-3 innings, giving up 11 hits and 11 runs.

Wyatt in Fifth Win for Salem
SALEM, May 12 – The Salem Senators, with Kenny Wyatt turning in an effective eight-hit performance, turned back the Wenatchee Chiefs, 4-1, here tonight in the opening contest of their three game series. It was Wyatt's fifth win against one loss.

SAN DIEGO, May 12 — President Bill Starr of the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League announced Monday that Ray Fortier, southpaw pitcher, will be sent to Victoria of the Western International League on option to make room for Dick Mulligan, recently optioned to San Diego by the Boston Braves.
