A's Fans Shout Woopy! Woop Wins
VICTORIA, May 23 - Bill Woop's steller four-hit pitching and a home-run attack gave the Athletics a 10-3 win over the league-leading Bremerton Bluejackets in Western International baseball Friday.
Woop had a shaky second inning when he gave up all the Bremerton runs.
Held at bay by the dinky throwing of Pete Barisoff for three innings as their batting slump continued into the second straight game, the A's scored their first run in the fourth when Pat Patterson homered. That set off a detonation which blew Barisoff right off the mound in the next frame.
Babe Jensen walked, Jack Harshman doubled, Johnny Cavallo homered, Bill Anske tripled and Woop singled before a man was out. Frank Lucchesi sacrificed and John Hooper hit for the circuit for the fifth and sixth runs of the inning.
Patterson's second four-base clout of the game, inside the park, was the feature of a three-run outburst in the seventh.
