Athletics Win Free-Hitting Contest
WENATCHEE, June 3 - In two hours and 59 minutes of baseball, the Victoria Athletics built up an early lead and added to it to defeat the Wenatchee Chiefs 18-11 in the first game of their Western International League series here tonight.
Victoria outhit the Chiefs 21 to 15 but where the Chiefs got but three extra base hits - two doubles by Nick Pesut and one by Lee Winter - the Athletics put together four doubles, two triples and two homers. The doubles were hit by pitcher Ray Fortier, Leo Righetti, Bill White and Jack Harshman. John Hooper and Harshman had the triples and homered were added by White and Babe Jensen. Harshman led the hittings wiuth four for five, batting in four runs.
