Bob Hall Throttles A's
VICTORIA - Big righthander Bob Hall stopped the bats of the Victoria Athletics as the Vancouver Capilanos picked up a 6-2 win and take the deciding game of three at Royal Athletic Park on Wednesday.
The Athletics were held to five hits, and four of them came in the fourth inning, when they picked up both their runs. Hall struck out ten, winding up the game by striking out the last four batters he faced, including two pinch-hitters in the ninth.
Despite the win, 15 Vancouver runners were left stranded.
Jim Estrada returned to the line-up after being sidelined with a broken hand and was 3-for-3 for Vancouver, driving in two runs with a double in the ninth. Len Tran homered in the third inning for the Caps.
Losing pitcher Dick Mitchell was kept in the game until he threw a ball to open the ninth inning.
Umpire Last cleared the Vancouver bench in the ninth. His mate, O'Loughlin, tossed Victoria manager Ted Norbert in the fourth for taking umbrage at his safe call before Buddy Hjelmaa had reached second on a sacrifice.
After the game, rookie pitcher Stu Reynolds drew his release to drop the Caps' roster to 18.
